With September coming to a close and October on the horizon it's time to start thinking about all things spooky and the other imaginative fun of Halloween. Costumes, games, parties... but it can also be a time of sugar overload. This is one of my favorite healthy recipes perfect for those who like a little bit of creepy fun. So good for you...it's scary.
Apple Bones with Berry "blood" Dip
5 large apples
1⁄2 a lemon
1 cup strawberries, fresh or frozen thawed
1 cup raspberries, fresh or frozen thawed
1⁄4 cup shredded beet, raw
1 teaspoon pure maple syrup
Blend the berries, beet and maple syrup in a blender till you have a smooth and thin sauce. Slice the apple top to bottom, giving you the largest surface area. Using a small bone shaped cookie cutter cut bones from the apples. Squeeze the juice from the lemon to prevent browning of the apples. Decorate and serve with the berry sauce.
